Telangana 72: Unite or Perish

Our fathers fought in 1969.  It was like an uncoordinated guerilla fight, spontaneous and violent, a sudden outburst which got extinguished as quickly as it got started.  It was students and young people who came onto streets and believed that the state would bow down and give them a separate state.  To their surprise the state dealt with them with an iron hand.  Using media blackout, they violently crushed the movement with hundreds killed, thousands injured, and most of the agitators jailed.  The state then blackmailed, threatened or bought the political leaders to give up all aspirations for statehood.

That was 42 years ago.

Surprisingly, the flame though small, was protected and carried by few of those broken fighters of 1969, till it got the necessary fuel to become a conflagration now.   This time around we are prepared for a long battle. This time we are not uncoordinated.  This time we are a polished machine.    This time around the state will not be able to crush us.  We had nearly 15 years to prepare for this.  We prepared songs, thousands of them.   We wrote books, hundreds of them.  We made slogans, we made flags; we made t-shirts and stickers, and wore them proudly.   We created hundreds of JACs, we mobilized millions of people.

Back in 1969, a political party came after the agitation was suppressed.  Now, we have a political party to begin with, not one, but many of them. This time around we don’t dance to the tune of politicians but make the politicians dance to our tune.  We are no longer ready to be betrayed by our politicians.  We are organized, sophisticated and we spread messages through electronic, print and voice medium.  We mobilize thousands with few SMS.  We are not the same as 1969 agitated fighters.  We are calm, composed, and determined.   We are not just young men and students.  We are grandfathers, fathers, uncles; we are grandmothers, mothers, aunts; we are professors, lawyers, bankers, miners, engineers, doctors, farmers, workers, laborers; we are school going children, we are young students.  And we are prepared.

This time around, we are in for a long haul.  We say, ‘bring it on’.   The more you suppress us, betray us, play with us, mock us, ridicule us, the more we get determined.  The more resolute we become.  The best way to unite us now is to suppress us the way you are doing.  You have underestimated us.  You thought, ‘Ha! These lazy Telanganas!  They will skitter away at the sign of first danger’. ‘Ah! These naïve Telanganas! We can just manipulate them’.  No! You face a different adversary now.  We are not going to skitter away.  We are not going to believe your false promises or false statistics.  Our sentiment is not going to wither away.   It is only going to get stronger till we attain Telangana.

This is 2011.

Thomas Jefferson said ‘every generation needs a new revolution’. We are the new generation and this is our revolution.  This generation is not ready to listen to petty excuses of older generation (like those who comprised Srikrishna Committee).  We are not going to fall for your geriatric antics.  We are not going to foolishly accept your foolish suggestions.  We will call your bluff.

We have very high expectations from this nation.  We call upon this nation to live up to its ideals.  We dream big.  We dream just.  We dream of a prosperous, harmonious, inclusive and equitable Telangana.  And we are ready work towards it.   We believe in our democracy.  And we will use politics for its logical end.  We use KCR.  We use the politicians to toe our line.  We, the people of Telangana, want Telangana.  And you politicians better get it for us.

“A moment comes, which comes but rarely in history…”

This is our moment.  And this is our time to make history.  This is not the time to ‘dither or dilly-dally’.  This is not the time to be timid and be complacent.  This is the time to unite.  We say to you: O! Politicians of Telangana! Keep your differences away! Get united for the cause of Telangana.  Show us you mean it when you say it.  Come under one banner.  Fight for Telangana.  Fight for your people.  And be spared.  Otherwise, be ready to perish.  If we can’t make history for ourselves, 'we will make you history!'

  5. Kalpana,
In this information age, one strategy to win is to spread misinformation. That is what SKC and its supporters are exactly doing. Without Money, Mass and Media, we are not getting anywhere.

All the media outlets are owned by Andhra people, all the money is in their hands. The only thing remaining is Mass and our own leaders are busy trying to disintegrate it. Be awake my friends, be awake and dont sleep.

  6. Now, when whole India has come to terms with the reality that Telangana has not been discriminated and 'kept underdeveloped', everything from discrediting SKC members, abusing committee and govt to grandstanding is being attempted. Satyameva Jayate... Truth has triumphed with the report of this committee.

In a week, all allies of UPA and BJP will turn against T-bill, if ever it stood a chance. There will be an online and public campaign against nation-dividers and maoist-sympathizers.

This is what happens to a stubborn human when they dont read the actual SKC report but read United Andhra Crap sites and conclude. Read the SKC report - 2.15.01

...some or all such allegations appear true when absolute amounts,

Newspapers gave awards based on information available. If every statistic is lie and numbers dont mean anything, all the science and physics is wrong. If newspapers and media research every financial document before giving awards or anything, then what is the job of auditors and accountants? There is no parallel... SKC used information from central statistical orgs that say you are an Indian and you live in India etc...

Bad idea, waste of time. Statistics were not the basis of formation of "linguistic states". It was a 'sentiment' that the tamils were not treating telugus well and potti wanted a telugu state. Potti submitted no report or statistics on his sentiment. Nor did Maharashtra people when they split from Gujarat.

My Name is Narsing, I live in a Lambada hamlet, My father is a Shepard, Mine is Nalgonda district ( apparently the most developed district in AP according to SKC, 76% vs 55% of Andhra).

10 years ago a wealth Businessman from Andhra established a "chemical manufacturing plant" in my village, for which he brought along "Laborers" from his native place .
The land for the "Chemical plant" was given by Govt, It was Our land but the govt took it in the name of "Development" and paid us Dirt for Compensation.
The Plant pollutes the only lake in my village and one of my "goat" died when it drank water from the lake.

But Iam a Happy Man now, Because the Gross Domestic Product(GDP) of my village is 50 crore RS per year more than any Canal Irrigated Village in Andhra and SKC confirmed it. HURRAH!!!!!!!!.

Don't laugh off the option of having Hyd + MBNR + Nalgonda as UT.
The news has started spreading thru the villages and the great benefits to the districts if that happens is being discussed.
Await the meeting of the MBNR ZP where they will pass a resolution for this option.

The thought that if T state is formed the district projects will not have resources is spreading among the masses today.

And Sujai....recall you asked why we are not standing up and shouting that we don't want to be part of T state. Well, we are going to do that NOW. We have waited patiently and bided our time and now the right moment has come.

If Sujai disagreed with SKC recommendations, it would have been honorable. But what he did was disgusting.... discredit the members of committee with personal attacks and denigrating them by comparing with marauders. He has no stature to do that. Indians listen to SKC because they have credibility and personal integrity without bias. This idiot is biased and attacks personally when he disagrees with their conclusion, based on scientific reasoning.

Sujai does not even offer a scientific approach to the problem. If emotions and sentiments are the only basis to arrive at solutions, democracy and freedom cannot survive.

@POK: anyone giving or supporting an opposite view is branded as SA agent or settler. Who is the settler in Bangalore? According to Sujai and ilk, there cannot be a person born and raised in T districts (outside hyd) who would not support T state. It is a lie and they refuse to accept it. No one including Sujai is saying that they will sacrifice their family, cushy jos for T cause. Reminds me of KCR family who push people to suicides and face police bullets but just confine themselves to speeches and fake hunger strikes.

I support strong India and it requires assertive police to protect public property, individual freedom and democratic rights to live and move anywhere in the country.

I never said or inferred on this blog that emotions and sentiments are the basis to arrive at all political solutions. How about aspirations? Aren’t aspirations of a group have any importance in a democracy? Yes, they do. Indians got Independence on aspirations, not on statistics or a report on whether India was indeed backward. No statistic is required to tell an India if he wants to be free of British rule. No statistic is required to tell a Telangana if he wants to be free of Seemandhra-dominated rule.

  37. Green Star,

SKC did not say that only 5 distrcits are Backward under BGRF.

Pl see page 122 of the report:
"Another factor considered as a special case is the presence of left wing
extremism. For example, five districts in Andhra Pradesh namely Nizamabad,
Karimnagar, Medak, Khammam and Nalgonda, which are all from Telangana
region are included in the RSVY on the recommendation of the Ministry of Home
Affairs. These left wing affected districts constitute 46 % population of Telangana
(including Hyderabad) and about 19 % of the population of Andhra Pradesh. On
the basis of other backwardness characteristics, four districts from Telangana,
three from Rayalaseema and one from coastal Andhra are listed under BRGF. The
BRGF population covered due to backwardness works out to be 41% (including
Hyderabad) in Telangana, 74% in Rayalaseema and only 7% in coastal Andhra.
Of the total 87% population covered by BRGF in Telangana, 46 % is covered
under extremist affected districts selection criteria. Thus, a large percentage of
population from Rayalaseema, relatively smaller percentage from Telangana and
very small percentage from coastal Andhra were backward as per the BRGF
backwardness identification criteria. Hence, the argument extended by some
political parties and civil society groups from Telangana region does not get
support from this analysis of the BRGF."

The situation is no different in Kakatiya University in Warangal and other campuses in the region. “It is building by the day. I don’t think the government would be able to keep things under control for long. The deployment of central forces in Telangana districts in the name of maintaining law and order is actually instigating trouble. People, particularly students, are getting provoked by seeing police in riot gear,” professor Vijay Kumar of Kakatiya University said.

Police have deployed new weaponry to suppress the agitating students. While new tear gas granite, which would explode after hitting the ground spreading the smoke, is being used and hundreds of these shells are being fired, the police are also using new guns.

“We are using a different gun this time. Instead of bullets, we use pellets in this. These are metal pellets but they would only injure and not kill a target,” DGP K Aravinda Rao said.

On Friday, the police fired tear gas shells seriously injuring two students.

“The police got into the ambulances used to shift students to hospitals and beat them up. The BSF and CISF deployed on the campus are behaving brutally,” Mahender, an OU JAC leader, said.

Quantum mechanics, thermodynamics, mechanics, and of that matter all the major discoveries in science are as results of statistics.

    Great quote from born-intelligent engineer.
Irrational arguments from (sel-declared) rational thinker are no surprise.

A country/state without proper leadership => No strong growth policies => high % of Illiteracy + population growth => poverty + lack of ethics + mob culture => weak-minded people + hereditary politics => marketing of regionalism => an induced sense of oppression/non-belonging tend to give => a regional desire for the need of independent state => a struggle for independent state => independent state => proper leadership? => Strong growth policies? => Less poverty/illiteracy/improved ethics? => Another regionalism?
When the (Telangana) people did not fight (alleged/proved) injustice by leadership in their own (Andhra Pradesh) state, I suspect it is highly unlikely they will fight injustice by leadership in their own (Telangana) state. Ultimate winner => politician (any region). Ultimate looser => people (any region).
    Two ways of fighting injustice
=> option (1) Direct way: People standing against injustice and fighting for it and finally getting justice on AP (complete)resources [E.g.:- Like the African Americans – who fought oppression and finally went on to get the highest post - President of USA. They earned their self-respect.]

=> option (2) Indirect way: People requesting for separation and fighting for it and finally getting separated and getting justice on T-region(partial)resources. [Eg:- People of Telangana -> I say we tried option one, but gave up on option one. Why giving up?]
[Giving up on option one - either shows “a general lack of true resolve to fight injustice directly in leadership and people” or “shows that there is no concrete proof for alleged injustice”. Is there a third reason?]

(Note considering option one: - Politicians of Telangana never resigned collectively for atleast one injustice done to Telangana [say the alleged mismanagement of Telangana region] in the past. Never did they voice collectively and brought it to Indian government centre’s table or Supreme Court. Why so?]
