Telangana 64: Love Thy Rapist

One commenter writes on my blog:

The very basis of Telangana movement is hatred towards Andhra and Seema people. This is sadly true. If that were not the case Telangana would have formed long ago.

That is so sad that some Andhras have to blackmail us this way.   It is like British saying to Indians, ‘as long as you hate us, we will not give you freedom’.  I understand that many Andhras got tired of my examples from Indian Independence movement.  Therefore, I will give you other analogies.  It is like White Americans telling Black Americans, ‘as long as you hate us, we will keep you as slaves’.  And for those who think our relationship is not that of Whites and Blacks, here is another analogy.  It is like a rapist telling the victim, ‘as long as you hate me, I will continue to rape you’.

Is it not the time for Andhras to introspect instead of asking Telanganas to stop hating them? Ideally, it should have been that Andhras ask themselves, ‘why do Telanganas hate Andhras? Is there a reason why Telanganas may be very angry with us?’  Why there are no Andhras who admit their guilt, apologize, and make amends?  Why doesn’t a single Andhra leader or commenter suggest implementing GO610 right away to win the hearts of Telanganas?  Why do they continue to coerce us, blackmail us, and ridicule us, our agitations and our leaders instead of making attempts for reconciliation?

Don’t Andhras understand that their continued domination and their apathy to our concerns is the reason why we are angry with them?  And that’s why we want to get separated?  How can you say to us that you will not allow us to separate until we stop hating you? How is that possible?  How is it possible for a slave to start loving his master with the hope that love will change his master’s heart?  Shouldn’t it be reverse?  That the master should start loving the slave so that the slave changes his opinion about the master?

Is it not true that British should amend their ways so that Indians stop hating them?  Is it not true that the White Americans should make the first move towards reconciliation so that Black Americans stop hating White Americans?  Is it not true that the rapist should make amends so that victim would eventually stop hating the rapist?

How can you put the onus of making first move onto the victim? What kind of devious thinking can make you think that way?  Is it how all Andhras think?  If so, Telanganas are up against some of the most devious and sinister peoples on this planet!  And if that is case, the current nonviolent agitations of Telanganas can never bring change in our opponents.

Peace works when the opponent respects you for your peaceful agitations.  Nonviolence worked against British, but might not have worked against Japanese.  Peaceful methods by Blacks worked against Whites, but might not have worked against Nazi Germans.

So, the question is who are we up against, British or Japanese, American Whites or Nazi Germans?  This is not for us Telanganas to answer this.  It is for Andhras to answer this.  Will they respect our people’s movements and eventually allow us to separate?  Or will they behave ruthlessly against us suppressing each and every agitation of ours?

I continue to believe that most Andhras are ordinary people who are humane, and that they would not want to see Telangana ruthlessly coerced and submissively defeated.  I believe that most Andhras would be reluctant to rule over us, and when they understand our plight, they will not support the domination of Telanganas any longer.  I believe they will oppose their leaders who are carrying this domination on their name.  I sincerely hope that’s the kind of opponents we have in Andhras.  And it is in the actions of Andhras that will decide whether my beliefs are indeed true.

  1. There is not much of introspection is required to understand why Telnganas hate Andhras.

IMPORTANT thing is you should not talk on behalf of all Telanganas.
Yes some Telanganas hate Andhras. Not all Telanganas. For example some Muslims in Hyderabad.

    Why these some hate Andhras.

    1. Before merger small section of educated were apprehensive of competetion.
    2. Same with employees. Moreover these employees were drwaing hefty salaries in Hyderabad state(See Sri. Raavi Narayan Reddy sppech of 1941), which were cut drastrically by KBR in name of uniform pay scales across the state.
(See the reported submited by T-separatists to SKC).
    3. After merger many ZPs in Telangana invited teachers from Andhra owing shortage of qualified teachers here. Some under qualified could not get jobs.
    4. Doras and Nizam loyals lost status and control.

These sections developed grudge against Andhras.

Hindutva forces too wanted to utilize communal differences in the region which is not encouraged by Andhras, especially TDP.

All these groups in various sizes tried to spread hatred among some more.
They were successful in sowing hatred in more people in 1969.
People gave thumping response to TPS, Channa reddy sold this to Indira Gandhi.
For thirty years most people except the original sections with grudge slowly forgot.
In fact busy with other matters like Naxalism, Dora oppression.
In 1980s and 1990s not much of hatred until KCR did not get his ministry.
The demand of separate state is revived. To sell the idea KCR revives the hate-campagin.
After a decade of efforts he is successful in spreading hate in more people.
Like TPS which got 11 MP seats TRS too got 11 MLA seats in by election.
Soon he will sell the mandate to New Delhi to save his businesses and the hatred will subside once more.

  2. I guess it's other way around. "Telangana supporters should introspect themselves, why some andhra's redicule our agitation? Why our agitation(NOT MOVEMENT) is irking some remote villager in srikakulam who doesnt have anything to do with Hyd".
2.Why entire india roared against chidambaram statement of dec 9th in all public opinions and TV debates".

When Sujai or any of us, finds an answer then the title of this blog doesnt arise at all.

    Thank you

  3. Oops!! you sound like an extremist. Every day you don't have to come up with a new 'reason' for separation. You and many of you have pointed out intellectually the right reasons that make sense for this movement. Talking this way of hatred or comparing to black and white or rapist , may just make you yet another extremist and people who support you may be discouraged. However you will still get a great applaud by the fellow fanatics.Stick to the right reasons and keep repeating them do not show your agitation.

  4. 1.‘why do Telanganas hate Andhras? Is there a reason why Telanganas may be very angry with us?’

Well, Indian gov.(Sonia Gandhi, MMS, Chidambaram) and media (Vir Sangvi, M J Akbar etc) have started asking this question- Why do Kashmiris hate Indians? Is there a reason why Kashmiris may be very angry with us?

2."There is a good reason to believe that once Kashmir is formed, there is no need for Kashmiris to rely on LeT or Taliban and hence the region will not be a haven for these foreign elements"

You have yourself said that violence is not a tap which you can stop at your will? Why did Afganishtan continue to burn even after Russians left?

3."Or if India had not annexed Kashmir."

Would it have prevented Bangladesh war?

4." Do you know that Britain held onto many of its colonies by financing it?"

The average Indian didn't have equal rights as an average Britisher. Whereas prior to military deployment in 1989 due to militancy the average kashmiri had equal rights as an avergae Bihari, and definitely a much better deal from the government.

  5. You may compare with Independence movement. But your leader is no-Gandhi. He uses the words like 'mundakodukulu, sannasulu, dammu..' in public discussions.
Talks like a brat 'meekinkoka vishayam chebata chebuta meerinka dangayataru'. Elder leaders from other parties call it is natural to Telangana culture.

IMO, the best analogy of your movement is with Pakistan's separation.

Let me follow you from now. When I got up this morning suddenly I've become analogy friendly like you. Jharkhand,Uttarakhand or Chattishgarh separatees (for lack of a word) never railed at Biharis or UPits or Madhya Pradeshis or threw a single freaking stone at a fellow Indian. The root of Telangana movement is malice, jealousy and hatred and not so much separation to ameliorate their region. It is quite clear ,ask a Keralite he will tell you the same. If you and your friends didn't go overboard with exuberant hatred towards Andhraites and utter things like Andhrawale Bago things probably would have been different. There would have been a sympathy towards their cause but not now.
Everyday people hear to leaders who are always grinding their axes on Andhras or bloggers like you who whet their pens threatening to stab them then and there. Telanganites are a bunch of Rip Wan Winkles running aimlessly on the Hyderabad streets pondering how to drag the Andhraites into their equations and buy more hatred.

  7. Sujai,

Andhra people have absolutely no opposition to implementing GO 610. It is for the employees and leaders to ensure it is implemented. The average man on the street does not care for it unless he is in the race for a Govt job. The vast majority of people in the state are looking for survival livelihood. For e.g., I don't care even if 100% jobs in Govt are reserved for people from Karimnagar because I am not looking for a Govt job. Those who are affected by it directly have to put in the efforts. Theoretically no efforts need to be put since there is a policy and so any GO should be implemented automatically. But we all know the reality of the govt way of working. The average govt officer just drifts thru his job. The Govt moves slowly. This is the case with all districts and schemes/projects in all districts. Some politicians manage to get things moving. We saw that during YSR times when Seema got many schemes implemented. That is way in all states in our country. I also want it to change, but I know the change is not going to happen in the foreseeable future.

So Govt employees , who are affected by GO 610 have to be active. Do you see any activity there? Absolutely no. There was a whimper sometimes ago and then it died. There are T based Govt employee organizations. They appear to be doing nothing.
What is stopping them. The HODs of the govt depts have been delaying the implementation citing lack of data. The T employees can bring the data out. In each dept, say, GENCO the employees of each district can collect the data and highlight it.

    @ Jai T,

A remote villager in Srikakulam is bothered about Hyd because he thinks that Hyd being the capital of Andhra state, his kids will get a means of livelihood. He sees kids from the city and towns getting jobs in Hyd and thinks thats the end of everything... just as the kids in Hyd are bothered about some Governor in some state called Ohio in some country called USA.

The remote villager in srikakulam is also surprised that there are no projects in Mahaboobnagar inspite of the Krishna passing thru it. he was not bothered about MBNR becauise he is asking why in his district there are no projects on the vamshadhara river. Why projects are there only in Krishna. Guntur etc. Why rich farmers from these districts are coming now and paying premium and buying out the lands along the vamshadhara canals. He rues that he is unable to buy lands since he does not have money. He laments that for 60 years the other districts had water for three crops and so made money all these years and with that money, just when the water has come to Srikakulam, those guys come and buy him out. Today if he is aware of the status in MBNR it is because he is watching it on TV and reading about it in the papers.

It is the same everywhere. The average Kannadiga laments that outsiders are coming and buying up the plots and flats in their state. they lament that their children are unable to buy plots and flats in livable places of bangalore.

    The average Andhraite

Yes, I do believe that violence is not a tap which you can stop at your will.

If you see how Kashmir is today, and how it is being described, even by Army, is that Kashmir is not providing haven to militants. They are saying that the new twist to this struggle is lack of militancy but ordinary youth who are resorting to defying authority, but not indulging in militancy.

With those observations in mind, I say that there is a good chance Kashmir will not go the way Iraq or Afghanistan went.

  9. Those who live in Telangana don't have a right to invoke the Freedom Struggle for none of them really fought for freedom from anybody other than the brave peasants of Telangana. The author wants to sugar coat his bitter venomous ideologies to make it appear as if he is genuinely work of a frustrated mind.He vents his frustration towards Andhra in the guise of freedom struggle.
The outcome of Freedom Struggle was not dominion status but full fledged self-rule. ow is it possible in a State of the Union setting? The Central Govt controls everything and its not as simple as you get your state and phew you are independent and do whatever you want.
The Freedom Struggle got us our own Currency, defence, postage and recognition in the comity of nations.IF the so called 'freedom struggle of Telangana' would get the same, then your drivel drawing examples from Freedom Struggle would make a great sense.Fighting for one's district or mandal or region would not be a freedom struggle. You have your own representation, legislators and lal bathi cars ,if your politicians deceived you you rail at them. But in the meanwhile let people live with some peace and sanity.Let's not make the otherwise peaceful state into a stone throwing paradise.

  10. Sujai,

The Andhraite is not opposed to GO 610. The average person does not know what is GO 610. It is only govt employees who are concerned with it. The govt employees from T have not been doing much to correct the anamolies. It is their efforts which can bring results. Except for a whimper sometime ago, the T govt employees have done nothing on the matter. Theoretically a GO should be implemented by the officers. But we all know how govt works in India. The average govt babu just drifts thru his job. In india as we all know people and their leaders have to pursue issues with vigor. The entire GO 610 issue has been put on the back burner by the employees and also by the parties.

The average Andhraite is concerned with his next meal....his survival and livelihood. Only those who in a situation to even get a govt job are concerned with 610. The vast majority don't know what it is.

    @ Jai telangana

The farmer in a remote village in Srikakulam is bothered about hyderabad because it is the capital of the state. he hopes that his kids will have their livelihood there. he thinks there are opportunities in hyd. he sees other kids coming back during the holidays and wants his descendants to be like that. if kurnool had remained the capital of AP, he would have thought the same about Kurnool.

The farmer in Srikaulam WAS not aware that MBNR did not have any projects even though the Krishna river passes largely thru the district. He is also asking why? But his concern is why there were no projects on the Vamshadhara while there were projects in Krishna, Guntur, EG and WG districts. He is also lamenting that the rich farmers from those districts having made money for 60 years, are coming and buying up the land along the canals in srikakulam. he cries that just when the projects are ready he is unable to buy any land. the land is being purchased at a high premium by these rich farmers from these rich districts.
Naturally based on what he hears and reads he thinks that his only hope - a job in the capital city - the land of opportunities for him- will also be denied. He is not educated enough to understand that even if Hyd is in another state his kids can still get a job. Who is going to educate him. who is bothered to educate him.

  12. why do Telanganas hate Andhras

No, not all Telanganites hate Andhras. Any Telanganite who can think rationally will not blame Andhras for the problems not solved by their elected representatives. Only illiterate Telanganites do because they cannot read/think and make their own judgement. They believe whatever is preached by the so called scholars (Sujai included) with hidden agendas.

Classic example is the ongoing debate about who is a real Telanganite? When they are not clear and not in agreement about this basic issue, why fight for a separate state?

Everyone is an opportunist these days. Political leaders are experts at using the innocent peoples' emotions for their growth. Unfortunately the scholars who are supposed to check them are playing in tandem.

This will CONTINUE even if a separate state is formed.

Sujai - when you yourself admit that separate state is not a panacea, why fight for one?

    My dear Andhras ,

Dont take this threats of violence lightly. Telangana goons have history on their side.

At last I see some “sense” coming in to Andhras, Fear is good for Survival but arrogance is not. Andhras especially “settlers” were showing so much “arrogance” towards Telengana movement ,brushing it aside as a “law and order” problem, they do not realize how “precarious their situation is”, they fail to realize that they are able to “settle” and have prosperous and peaceful lives in Telengana not because “central govt enforces the right to settle in any corner of the country” but due to the “goodwill” of local “Telengana” people who see them as hardworking entrepreneurs bringing benefit to the community as a whole, but when that view of them is replaced by that they are “ arrogant, parasitic class of people hell bent on exploiting local people” enforced by “propaganda” of KCR or by their own arrogant behavior, they loose all the “security”, guarenteed not by some “constitutional right” enforced by “paramilitary forces” but by the “good will” of Telengana people. Salvage what is left of the “good will” of Telengana people before it completely “evaporates” due to ur “foolhardiness “ or else U “settlers” will find urself in “dire” conditions.
You are right “nameless” government is not a “ moral agent” and will act only when its suits its Purpose.
“Lagadapti”(a capitalist thug) is actin as spokesperson for “Samykhandhra” movement , its not very beneficial for Andhra “ settlers” because his motives and goals do not align with the rest of “settler population” he can hope to be “safe” even when all the hell brakes loose in Telengana but that cant be said about the rest of “settler” population. His main motive is to protect his “investments” and not “Andhra settlers”.

    ReplyDelete
  14. "His main motive is to protect his “investments” and not “Andhra settlers”."
The main motive of Telangana agitators is to take leftovers that Seemandhra people might leave if when they are forced to leave Telangana. The agitators think they can go to Andhra and ask them to leave Telangana if it is formed.
You are wrong. You cannot lift even little finger at any of settlers.Your own Telanganites will teach KaChaRa and other Tvadis big lesson.

  17. The reason behind JAI ANDHRA MOVEMENT

Some half-wit idiots like Chelesani of the self claimed Andhra Medhavi Forum state that They agitated for a seperate andhra during JAI ANDHRA movement but were forced to be united state, but the real reason for JAI ANDHRA movement is this:(exerpted from a book by Harish Damodarans Indian capitalists)

    During the
early 1970s the Congress central leadership under Indira Gandhi at-
tempted to take its rural reforms agenda one step ahead through socio-
economic programmes specifically targeting Dalits, tribals, and other
backward classes. Also, in what was perceived as a bid to undermine
the hold of the dominant peasant castes over these groups—who pro-
vided a captive ‘vote bank’ for exercising power in rural localities—the
state government of P.V. Narasimha Rao introduced a land ceilings act
prohibiting individual families from owning more than eighteen acres
of irrigated land growing two crops. For the Kamma middle peasantry
this foreclosed the potential to acquire cultivable land beyond a certain
physical (and psychological) threshold. To add to their discomfiture,
a Supreme Court ruling in October 1972 upheld a nizam-era firman
(decree) reserving government jobs in Telangana (which included Hyde-
rabad) for only mulkis (residents) of the region. The decision sparked
off a ‘Jai Andhra’ movement, spearheaded by Kamma Land owners.

So Jai Andhra movment was basically a movment by upper caste people(kammas) against BC's and opposing landreforms for poor,
and telengana movement will reverse it.
