Telangana 48: Idiotic journalism

What happens when journalists become idiots?

Here is an example of a journalist who allows his prejudice cloud his judgment and reasoning.  His name is Shaik Ahmed Ali and he writes on IBN Live.

While Yadaiah's love for Telangana is undisputable, I suspect whether he willingly attempted suicide.  At least I don't want to believe that Yadaiah's suicide bid was a spontaneous reaction. The authorities need to find answers for: who were all aware he would attempt suicide; who were was possessing the suicide note and why; when, how and who brought his life-size photographs in the campus and how the media representatives got access to his suicide note even before the police got it and why did he choose the place where the media cameras were present. The suicide bid was perfectly planned and timed in order to get maximum publicity. But who planned it?

Most newspaper reports and media reports already provide answers to many of these questions.  There was no need for Shaik Ahmed Ali to ask the same irrelevant questions.  In fact, it was his duty to answer those questions to his readers to allay their misinformed suspicions.   Instead, Ali is just playing to prejudices of his audience.

It is well known now that Yadaiah brought with him a bag in which he had few bottles of kerosene, a set of photographs of himself standing next to few prominent leaders – this can be explained because he was working at video/photo studio and participating in Telangana agitation, a set of his school certificates, and a suicide note.  When he ran towards the police after setting himself on fire, it is natural for anyone to look around, find a bag, open, and show it to the nearest media person.  That’s how the media got access to his suicide note before the police got hold of his belongings.  Media was inside the cordon closer to where Yadiah was standing while the police was outside the cordon.

One doesn’t need a hand of CIA or Mossad to explain something that is obvious, and yet Shaik Ahmed Ali wants us to believe that there is a conspiracy behind self-immolation of this leaderless, rudderless and clueless young orphan kid of Telangana.  It is duty of a journalist to see the events in the right perspective.  If he thinks there is a conspiracy, it is his duty to uncover it, not just succumb to his prejudices or pander to the detractors that form his audience.

So far, over a dozen students committed suicide 'demanding Telangana', but circumstantial evidences tell a different story. Almost all of them wrote similar text in their 'suicide notes' complaining of delay in formation of Telangana state.

Let’s understand this first.  Every Telangana person will tell you the same story why they are upset today.  They are upset because of ‘delay in formation of Telangana’.  It is like asking pre-Independent India why they are upset.  They would have told you the same thing – they are upset that ‘Britain is not granting India its independence’.  There is no need to cook up a conspiracy theory to understand what most people want.  If you had asked almost any student protesting against Vietnam War in US in late 1960s and early 1970s, you would get the same answer – they ‘don’t want the war in Vietnam to continue’.

Ask any student, any teacher, any miner, any lawyer in Telangana, he will tell you the same thing- we are all upset because of the delay in formation of Telangana.  So, if every suicide note says the same thing, it is not a conspiracy, it is a testament to the cause of Telangana that all our wishes are desires are the same.

In all cases, media got access to the suicide note before the police got them. The authorities should find out if somebody was trying to exploit the sentiments of Telangana students by abetting them to commit suicide.

Only a fool who has absolutely no idea of what a people’s movement is would write something like that.  Its like saying the authorities should have found out if someone was abetting young people like Bhagat Singh, Azad et al to do what they did.  Right now the students are kicking away the politicians, throwing stones at their houses and cars, because these politicians have abandoned the cause of Telangana, clearly demonstrating that they are guided by the cause of Telangana more than anything else.

Committing suicide is unfortunate, but nobody is egging them on, nobody is promising them a place in heaven surrounded by 72 virgins.  Many of them did not even seek media attention.  They committed suicide because of disillusionment and extreme disappointment of what’s happening in Telangana.  Even mature people like us get into a mood swing when we are let down like the way we are.  We know very clearly that we are being played and there is nothing we can do about it.  It’s the helplessness that is driving these students to commit suicide, the same helplessness a farmer in Telangana experiences after taking loans to dig bore wells and never getting water in spite of 7 attempts, the same helplessness that comes from knowing that River Godavari is only 10 km away but the irrigation scheme that got started is now left abandoned because the authorities stopped allocation of funds.

Telangana people don’t need anyone to egg them on to participate in a rally or protest.  They come out in thousands at a single call.  Suicides are unfortunate.  It is taken up by those who think there is no hope left.  We should address the current suicides the way we address the suicides of farmers.  We need to rectify the system instead of trying to find out who has brainwashed this farmer to commit suicide.

Another factor that needs to be probed is the source of funding for this agitation. It takes millions of rupees to run a small political campaign, take election for an assembly seat for example. Therefore, one can imagine the kind of money that is being spent on organising rallies and public meetings in 10 districts of Telangana for over two months. It is therefore, impossible that students, who survive on pocket-money given by parents or scholarships, are self-financing the movement. There are certainly external sources of funding for the entire movement. Who are those financiers and why are they spending money to instigate violence?

Shaik Ahmed Ali has no idea what a people’s movement is.  There are many organizations that exist right now in Telangana which take contributions to fund rallies and protests.  While organizing Human Chain, I personally took money from friends, families and well-wishers, and there were other organizations like TDF that immediately helped us with printing pamphlets, distributing them and so on.

We organized the entire event using few thousand pamphlets and few phone calls/SMS.  To send some pamphlets to Adilabad, we didn’t even have to send a person.  We just gave it to a bus driver who handed it over to the right contact in Adilabad.  When we went to make prints, the printer gave us huge discount because it was for the cause of Telangana.  When we faxed to various media outfits the night before, the guy took only 50% of the actual price because it was for Telangana.   There were times when we got things for free.

When we went to various colleges to distribute, we didn’t spend much time there.  We had to meet the local JAC leader give him pamphlets and move to the next college.  The students didn’t ask for anything. They didn’t even ask who we were, what organization we represented.  It is well understood that we are all united in the cause of Telangana, irrespective of our political affiliations, religious affiliations, caste affiliations.

I didn’t know it was so easy to mobilize people.  I was quite amazed.  We didn’t have enough time.  For the work we did on a single day, I thought about fifty people would show up on the Tank Bund.  A friend and I who arrived first on Tank Bund were the only two people to show up.  It was 9:15 AM in the morning.  When only ten people showed up by 9:45 AM, we thought it would be a major disaster.  We jokingly told ourselves that if nobody showed up we will just go to a movie and forget about the Human Chain.  By 10:30 there were few hundreds, and by12:00 Noon there were thousands of people chanting Jai Telangana.  After a while, we didn’t even have to monitor the chain asking people to stand in line.  There were so many others who were volunteering.

One call to Telangana NGOs brought few hundred people. There were students, there were Muslim organizations, and there were women outfits.  The student leader in Adilabad who mobilized lakhs of people to form 120-km stretch called me to say that they did it all with INR 14,000 of pamphlets.

When Osmania University campus mess was closed, a local industrialist in Hyderabad was happy to provide all the meals for few days, telling himself he has done something for the cause.  This is how a real people’s movement is carried out.  There are people, thousands of them, ready to chip in and contribute.

Ali’s brain is in his ass.  He is not thinking properly.  His prejudice is clouding his judgment.  Such journalists are the root cause of many social problems in India.  They create lies and they catch on because they are many detractors who want to spread it.

Back to Telangana, forcing the elected representatives of Telangana region to resign from their post is the most unique and interesting feature of this agitation. More than a strategy to put pressure on the UPA Government to concede Telangana, it looks like a tactic by the Telangana Rashtra Samithi to increase its tally in both the State Assembly and Lok Sabha. Assume that all MLAs and MPs from Telangana belonging to all parties resign (and their resignations get accepted). Consequently, either the Rosaiah Government would fall leading to dissolution of assembly or fresh polls or the President's Rule is imposed to facilitate by-election on Telangana seats. Since TRS is spearheading the Telangana movement, it would simply sweep the by-elections.

There seems to be no limit to Ali’s idiocy.  The ordinary people, like us, like the students, the common people of Telangana, all of us want Telangana.  And many of us are NOT TRS/KCR supporters.  We all want to force our leaders to resign because we remember the promises they made on the dead bodies of students who committed suicides for the cause of Telangana – they promised they will renounce and relinquish their positions for the cause of Telangana on the designated date.  The date has come and gone, they have not resigned.  It is the people’s pressure that made TRS leaders resign.  Back then, it was the people’s pressure that made KCR to continue his fast.  It is the people who are leading this movement.  To think that entire Telangana movement is to aid only one political party makes you an ignorant fool.  I am amazed at your lack of comprehension of reality.

Is your community supporting separate Telangana? This question is not being asked to Reddys, Kammas, Kapus, Velamas, SCs, STs, Christians, Sikhs or any other community. But almost all Muslims in Andhra Pradesh are being forced to answer this? Those living in Hyderabad are bravely maintaining silence; a few of them living in other Telangana districts are expressing support while those in coastal Andhra are openly opposing Telangana. Since Muslims constitute about half of the total population in Hyderabad, they have remained neutral to the whole issue following the dictate of the Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen.

We all know that many Muslims groups are supporting cause of Telangana.  Only certain sections of Hyderabad are not.  That’s because of the diktat of MIM.  Remove MIM from the picture and those Muslims will overwhelmingly support Telangana.  So, what does it show?  While rest of Telangana including Muslims is acting independent of their political affiliations, only a small section of Hyderabad Muslims are acting on diktats of their political affiliations.  Who is brainwashed here, Rest of Telangana or that small section of Hyderabadi Muslims?

The only victims are the students who are being used as pawns by everyone.

Any student of history or journalism understands this – most people’s movements have been led by students.  When it is led by students people do agree that it is independent of a political party or ideology.  The demonstrations for freedom in Tiananmen Square in China was led by students, the anti-war protests against Vietnam War or Iraq War in USA were spearheaded by students.  Many a times it’s the students who spearhead such great campaigns and bring in a change.

Idiots like you who do not have an iota of knowledge of contemporary history should not become journalists.  I am not even sure how you became a journalist.  If I was running IBN Live I would fire you right away – not for your bias, but for your lack of knowledge of contemporary history.

  1. This is one of the finest analytical and honest critique I have seen in the last few years. Sujai keep up the good work.

Instead of discussing on merits, vested interests (imperialistic Andhraites) are just emotionally manipulating with conspiracy theories. Elite muslims owning properties near Gachibowli/Pahadisharif - succumbing to greed are talking non-sense.

Small states are needed to build stronger Indian Patriotism. Telangana banao, Bharat Bachao!

  2. Guys, Please come out the illusion.

Telangana formation is not the solution for every problem. Telangana movement is misleading youth. Everybody needs to study well or excel in their interests to get a job not by doing some movement which is not in your hands.

There would be hell lot of problems faced by this society. Forget about society. Your university will have lot of problems. Did you ever tried to solve those problems?

I agree that you will have some primordial loyalties to "Telangana". But that should not make you blind from seeing other side of society.

I would urge the blogger to use his excellent communication skills and energy in doing some positive work.

Can you put forward any other solution for telangana other than the inherent "self-rule and self respect" ingrained with the separate telangana solution.
Do you want telangana to continue to suffer the rule of andhra dominated caste politics??
This kind of prejudice is what Sujai is addressing here.
Do not take sides just because you belong to certain region.

You are bound to fore see, depending on your convent based education, the minor problems like University Problems.
We are focusing on our society problems and not on simple University problems. The problems you some how fore see will have their own solutions.
For time being, focus on the problems of the millions of downtrodden telangana who for decades have suffered under the andhra bureaucracy.

  8. Mr. ali knows how to gather attention doesn't he?

Here are the facts, the timesnow correspondent covering this issue is from andhra. She uses the right words to put this movement in a bad light. There are several CNN IBN corespondent in hyd. So there outlook comes out all mixed. The hindi news channel correspondent are mostly from UP and bihar. They do not have any vested interests hence they cover the agitation and vibe "as it is".

There are a few hundred lawyers holding a protest in delhi but only india tv is covering those protests. It is very common for news wire services to come together and decide whether to cover an issue or not. It has happened many time in india. There was a hindu-muslim clash in mangalaore few months ago and these media hoochus had ignored it after consultations.

There are vested interests all around and in every corner. You need to find a way to make them happy. You need to serve there interests and they'll serve yours. If lies are circulated as facts for the sake of normalcy, what is the outcome of such a democracy? The people of such a democracy are enlightened but ignorant. That is the sad fact about india - A flawed democracy based on lies. The BJP even has a name for people like these - pseudo secular.

Here is another example of the Yellow Journalism.
This time it is from a much followed journalist blog.
This idiot instead of applauding the democratic exercise of the jharkhand people, casts extremist doubts on their democratic enlightenment.
And interestingly he extrapolates and projects a similar situation in telangana if at all separation ensues.

I don't think she was saying anything wrong. May be she was out of explanation at that time.
If the govt. aided coleges in telangana were set up according to the necessities then there would never have been such mushrooms of andhra corporate colleges in telangana.
Govt. has ignored telangana for several decades. This fact is evident from what the girl said there.

  11. Sravan,

If there was a shortfall of govt inter colleges then it is correct to complain about it and we accept her point.
But why complain about corporate colleges which incidentally as we all know have been producing rankers from telangana? Just because the owner is from Andhra?

Why don't educated people from those regions start similar colleges?

My children's tutors for MPC are all Telanganites and all work in Narayana College. They are very well paid and have absolute pride in their college. They were anguished that the agitators are rueing about their colleges forgetting that their college has consistently produced some of the top rankers from the state and rankers in Eamcet from the T regions .

Ahmed ali is asking the same questions that i have asked yesterday. I was abused for asking such situations. Anyway , all rational persons should ask such questions.

Many are of the opinion that some people knew in advance of this immolation. The journalist is asking to investigate such allegations. Why are you so afraid of a investigation if you have nothing to hide ?

The authorities should have found out if someone was abetting young people like Bhagat Singh, Azad et al to do what they did.

However much you want to build it up , Telangana movement is no freedom struggle , this suicidal people are not in the league of Bhagat Singh,Azad. In fact by making such comparisions you are pissing off neutral people in rest of india.

We need to rectify the system instead of trying to find out who has brainwashed this farmer to commit suicide.

Yeah , no need to investigate the brain washers because we intellectuals will be exposed. We will keep on brain washing and glorifying suicides.

Remove MIM from the picture and those Muslims will overwhelmingly support Telangana.

Remove TRS goons,OU naxals from the picture and then you will see how many people in Telangana actually support this movement.

  19. Regarding the protests of Lawers in Delhi:

Its a joke of judicial system (which is supposedly the best of the three pillars of Indian govt) by the same people who are expected to practice the law.

I can see two reasons for their protests:
    1. Mocking the students, politicians and other protestors of this movement.
    2. Their profession/education in law is good for nothing to achieve their objectives within the framework of law.

Are these lawers oblivious to the Commission panelled by the people of their own profession?

I repeat, sincerely favor deserving justice to all the regions, but that does not mean, you hold people and society to ransom to get the statehood.

The sky will not fall if Telangana is not formed. Instead of focusing on the core issues of marginalisation/partiality (if at all its there), people have become fanatical in spreading hatred and mud throwing.

Take a look at this article,
    http://www.rockhopper.tv/blog/?p=357

It shows how a business man with a vision and bend for social welfare is creating wonders in Maharashtra. I came to know about him through BBC. We need people like him to solve the problems of irrigation.

With Right to Information, I expect the citizens to be empowered enough to challenge the injustice easily in the court of law.

And, things like Self Respect, Form of Telugu, can be slowly achieved and are mostly emotional issues catering to egos than any tangible benefits to people's lives.

For Sujai and others, who have the guts and wit to rebut anybody, please go and make your voice heard with Sri Krishna committee. Although the committee was not given any key powers, its outcome certainly influence everybody.

And, lastly, banning people//businesses owned by people from other regions of Andhra Pradesh, only shows the shortsightedness and collective punishment (which Palestinians are enduring from Jewish people and the same Jewish people had faced all over Europe earlier). This is already imbuing like a mini civil war, which is very unfortunate to see.

I am from Andhra region, and not averse to Telangana formation. People are blowing this out of proportions. Sky will not fall whether or not Telangana is formed. Telangana is not Freedom struggle. Its about Hyderabad, Natural Resources, Equitable opportunities and Self respect.

The core problems crippling Indian society are Governance, Corruption.

Sujai, make your criticism constructive and respectful and not outright rebuke and slurs! You show respect to those who support your fanaticism and censure (as if you've known/read everything the humans have assimilated) those who have opposite views.

The Shri Krishna commm. has not been given any powers.....

You answered the very question here...

What is the use of a committee which is set up without being given the power to solve it?

It is like the formation of the League of Nations ,immediately after the first world war...

Though it was set up to prevent any future wars,it failed miserably to stop the second and more disastrous world war as the bigger nations refused to give it monetary sanctions.

The results are for all of us to see, today.

Why dont we learn from mistakes, ours or others ?

Though Sujai might want to answer for himself regarding the second comment,i,d like to point out here that he had answered several hundreds of questions regarding telangana quite patiently.

But,if the same questions are asked again and again by a single commentator it becomes difficult for someone to maintain the same decorum or dignity over a long period of time.

For example in a case of 'A women killed a guy', this journalist ask that women questions like 'where/how did you get that knife if you are not planned to kill him' but he do not ask ' why did you killed him, did he tried to abuse you?'

In first question, this journalist judged that women that 'she willingly killed the guy' before even asked her any question.

An intelligent person like you should have understood this simple thing. Ultimately, our respected MPs (and political parties) have to vote on this issue in Parliament to form (or decide on) Telangana. The SKC report will help them make an informed decision rather than blindly go by what KCR says or Samaikyavadis say.

Doing things that frustrate or obstruct working with SKC will go against your cause.

    @ chandu:

This is what JP says on water allocation to Telangana. It is laughable.

pavva:Is it true that really telangana region losing their funds and water?
Dr. Jayaprakash Narayan: - About funds - there is no discrimination whatsoever. - Regarding water, Telangana accounts for about 20% of the total catchment area of Krishna river. But Telangana contributes 263 TMC of water to the river, and is allotment 280 TMC for the projects in Telangana. Coastal Andhra region gets more because AP gets a higher share than the catchment; water always flows down-stream into the sea; and there is prior use of water in the coastal belt that established riparian rights for about 150 years. Clearly, there is no discrimination. Growth of irrigation in Telangana is much higher over the past 50 years - partly canal, partly bore-wells. But there has been no discrimination by governments. Geography gives each region same advantages, and causes some problems. Everything cannot be equally distributed.

    The reason:

He says: irrigation in Telangana is much higher over the past 50 years - partly canal, partly bore-wells.

The Nizam Sagar has dried up as water is being diverted to Hyderabad. The Canals of Telangana have dried up due to govt.'s neglect. A good number of farmers depend solely on ground water from bore-wells.

Someone needs to explain to me what the role of govt. has been in farmers digging bore-wells out of their pockets?

The bank loans given out for this purpose are so low in amount... and farmers end up digging deeper than 200ft... the costs associated with it have been one of the reason for farmers suicides in Telangana. How many "free" or "govt. sponsored" bore wells have been dug in the past decade?

Added, is JP Narayan so naive that he doesn't understand a simple concept called: "water table depletion"? how long does he believe the water table will last?

How many districts of AP/Telangana have been declared drought-prone due to lack of water for irrigation and drinking? What help was offered by the state-govt?

  37. @hellopagan,

The SKC is the latest version of Girglani Comm and many more.

The govt. has already played this card so many times, that we can actually almost predict their next move.

Any logical person would simply not depend on paper stats provided by the govt.

If the centre had doubts about the legitimacy of the demands/accusations,a simple aerial tour around the regions should have been their first decent or sensible step(which would make things clear, from either development or agricultural point of view and is done so often during emergencies like floods).

Relating to govt.official records,we all have been fooleed by several govt,s earlier(irrespective of being either from T,R or A)on a lot of counts.

Did you know that some villages do not still have a decent hospital or any kind of drinking water facilities though the record clearly mentions of a multi- storied hospital and pipe line projects which are underway from atleast 15 yrs.

These places are only a couple 10,s of k.m,s from a so called sub-metro like Hyd.

How difficult is it to plan a couple of trips to check the authenticity of the claims?Even by their own standards, say once in 10 yrs.

The centre knows there is underdevelopment in lots of places in T,comparatively.

    Why delay tactics,then??

None of us are against the SKC or for that matter any other Committee,s but, when there is no majority in the Assembly or Parliament regarding an issue it cannot pass the law, simple.

So,even if SKC says T should be formed it,s not neccessry that the report would be respected and acted upon.

WHEN,HOW,AND ON WHAT TERMS SHOULD HAVE BEEN THEIR STEP,NOT IF..

It,s like my getting a new toy though i,ve had many before instead of a book, which i,ve been asking for and need more.

And no prizes for guessing where the majority is..
And the money to influence is..
And the track record of breaking rules is..

I would blame the centre for playing favourites, instead of being the mature one,for EVERYTHING that is happening here.

Just learned the hard way, what a few incompetent leaders can do to our country.

The Congress is never getting my vote ever again...

  38. Read the following response by JP with your head and heart... and see just HOW cold the response is.

On paper, Nalgonda has Nagarjun Sagar Dam investments.
On the ground, they suffer from lack of drinking water!!!!

And teh callous response by JP makes me wonder,... JUST HOW DUMB ARE HIS FOLLOWERS ?!?!?!

Narayan:Hi Mr. JP! In a current situation in AP, evrybody has their own stand from two regions with their demands. Do we believe we get the right solution for the two regions? I'm from Nalgonda district where I have seen so many villages are away from even drinking water. But only on the records, our district got the project called "Nagarjuna Sagar". But when these things will resolved along with so many problems like 610, undevelopments at telangan regions?????? What do you think if we get the correct solution? Thanks, Narayan

Dr. Jayaprakash Narayan: Undoubtedly, backwardness exists in many parts of AP. Drinking water, school education, public health, basic amenities - all are in a disgraceful state. We need to re-engineer politics and make districts the third and effective tier of federalism. The problems transcend regions and are a result of bad politics, poor execution and failed leadership.

Hey don't arrogate yourself and compare the Telangana to pre-independent India. This is a pathetic state of mind verging on sedition. You are in independant India. The cause of frustration in the minds of the Telangana youth is that once it is formed, people can do anything they wish. How can the students and politicians harbour such thoughts. How would Telangana formation give you uninhibited and unfettered freedom. There are state lists and concurrent lists. You cannot do anything at your will. The purpose of a state formation is not for freedom but just for admin convienience.Do you recall any state formation being depicted as an independence movement anywhere in the world?Andhras or for that matter any Indian can settle down in Hyderabad or in Telangana and buy property there and apply for jobs. How can Telangana formation usher in another utopia. Please educate the youth, formation of the state is not a panacea for all the ills in the society. When the Telangana is formed you still have to fight for your rightful share of central allocation and compete for private investment. Its not like you work in the framework of a constitution of your own.The IBN blog is correct about the participation of Muslims. The Telangana muslims participate in the movement fearing reprisals from their neighbours.Don't take that as a voluntary participation. The need of the hour is to dissuade the students from undertaking extreme steps of suicides.People like Sujay instead of spending money on poster and messages do something about the suicides. The innocent students believe that formation of Telangana is the end of their struggle. But in reality it is when their struggle actually begins. With reduced strength in parliament representation and limited resources the people of Telangana need more motivation and sharper thought process. You guys instead of castigating some IBN reporter who made an observation which no local reporter dared, show some mettle in showcasing what you'll really do when Telangana is formed. How would formation of Telangana usher in a golden era? Can you please explain? The Telangana is formed only when you have support of fellow Indians and not by taking the state to ransom. In other words West Bengal and Maharastra has more stake in formation of Telangana than the Telangana representatives themselves.Try to rationalize your approach and delve into the argument taking figures and indices and how will the quality of life not only in Telangana but in India as such will improve rather than comparing this with Freedom struggle. In what way is it beneficial to have a state with its existing capital and to spend thousands of crores to create a new capital for the bifurcated state. Why should the goverment spend my taxes in creating new state capital(s) just to satisfy the emotional aspirations of a region? I like to state here that Telangana Movement in the 40s was instrumental in merger of Hyderabad into Indian Union and it was led by Seemandhra leaders like P.Sundarayya .If you want a new state buy peace with your neighbors first and with other compartiots.Come out with a blue print of why Telangana is necessary and how it would improve India in general. If I'm satisfied I'll bring pressure on my MP to fight for your cause.

    Telangana movement is misleading youth.

YOu made a rude and blunt statement. In one way, you have directly attacked the "intellectual capacity" of students above 18 yrs of age to be able to make their own decisions.

Do you want to go one step further and state that voters of age above 18 yrs of age do not make a balanced or intelligent choice at the ballot?

Why do you believe that the entire Telangana youth is being mis-led?

If the youth is being misled, are the Teacher's unions misled? Are the employee and trade unions misled? Are the lawyers and doctors also misled?

From your perspective... it looks like everyone is misled... in that case, you must be the Busha under Bodhi tree to be the only Gyaani! Kindly enlighten us and let us know why you think we are all misled?

Jallian wallah bagh.... discrimination based on language (accent), inadequate representation in state govt. jobs... mis-representation of funds being allocated to the region... and a host of other things.

This is a pathetic state of mind verging on sedition.

I agree that you will have some primordial loyalties to "Telangana". But that should not make you blind from seeing other side of society.

By describing people striving for Telangana as people "succumbing to their primordial loyalties".... you are trying to make us look blind to your side of the story.

The point is... the STORY you want to show us from your end is far from truth. You need to understand Telangana's history, geography, culture, language, civics and economics before you make such statements.

If you have something objective to point out, say it. Don't make statements like "you are blind". We can throw that line right back at you.

Its a joke of judicial system (which is supposedly the best of the three pillars of Indian govt) by the same people who are expected to practice the law.

Why do you think a protest by lawyers is a joke of the judicial system? Did you know that all Andhra lawyers protested during the "Jai Andhra" of 1972? What do you expect the people who practice law to do.. when the state govt. is itself in comtempt of court on so many occasions?

I can see two reasons for their protests:
    1. Mocking the students, politicians and other protestors of this movement.

How does a lawyers protest translate to mockery of students???
Kindly explain and educate us. You seem to be making bizarre conclusions.

    2. Their profession/education in law is good for nothing to achieve their objectives within the framework of law.

Kindly explain 1. Their Objectives 2. How their education is falling short in meeting their objectives.

If you are trying to hint at their protests being "outside the frame of law" you are wrong. PEOPLE have the right to protest... and express their dissent and disagreement through peaceful gatherings in a democracy.

It is not the first group of people to protest outside the parliament... it will not be the last.

Are these lawers oblivious to the Commission panelled by the people of their own profession?

The lawyers are not oblivious to the fact that a SC justice leads the panel. They are very AWARE that the committe has no legal teeth, that its findings do not have any binding on the state or central govt.s and that like many other committees in the past on Telangana, this one is to waste time and money.

I repeat, sincerely favor deserving justice to all the regions, but that does not mean, you hold people and society to ransom to get the statehood.

Who is holding "people and society to ransom"??? What is the ransom amount? What is the threat?

The sky will not fall if Telangana is not formed.

Someone's sky was falling on formation of Telangana... and hence your MLAs and MPs resigned in LARGE numbers soon after the announcement on Dec 9'th. Did you miss that part?

Instead of focusing on the core issues of marginalisation/partiality (if at all its there), people have become fanatical in spreading hatred and mud throwing.

You are right... we are not focussing on the problems... we are focussing on the solution... We believe that Telangana is a solution to our problems in the Plutocracy being run in the name of Democracy in AP where the vested interests of a few classes and sections of the society are MORE EQUAL than the other citizens.

  50. //Hey don't arrogate yourself and compare the Telangana to pre-independent India.//

Indian struggle is country level, at that time country is ruled by British, they do what ever benefits them. Same way Telangana agitation is state level. AP is ruled by Andhras, they do what ever they think good for them. That way we compare it.

//This is a pathetic state of mind verging on sedition./

    Thank you.

//The cause of frustration in the minds of the Telangana youth is that once it is formed, people can do anything they wish.//

Looks like some one gave you wrong info? Did your sources come from your United Andhra Band? In separate state we get political freedom, resources freedom, govt. jobs freedom, river water freedom, .....trust me, it's a big list.

//How can the students and politicians harbour such thoughts. How would Telangana formation give you uninhibited and unfettered freedom.//

    Read above comment.

//You cannot do anything at your will.//

This is what we are saying to you from decades, see what have you done to us.

//The purpose of a state formation is not for freedom but just for admin convienience.//

In this we both are in the same page. Currently we do not have to ask each and every small things to our Govt. where Andhra gets such things for granted. So for our admin convienience we want separate state, so we do not have to ask any one.

//Do you recall any state formation being depicted as an independence movement anywhere in the world?//

Okey, I got it. So can we compare it with your 1950s movement when you separated from Madras?

//Andhras or for that matter any Indian can settle down in Hyderabad or in Telangana and buy property there and apply for jobs.//

That's true, but same time you can not apply/get certain jobs without getting the local status, such jobs are protected and safeguarded from locals only. Now tell me how many non-locals are working in Telangana? If you do not know the exact number, then please refer to Girglaini Report, or read about GO610

//When the Telangana is formed you still have to fight for your rightful share of central allocation//

In curret situation, first we have to fight with state govt. and next fight with central govt. In our separate state, we cut the first fight, directly fight with central. Saves lots of energy and time to us.

//The Telangana muslims participate in the movement fearing reprisals from their neighbours.Don't take that as a voluntary participation.//

Why stop at Muslims only, your sources also tells me that even OC/BC/SC/ST are also involved by force or by money offers. Except KCr and his family every other guy involved in this movement are forced.

//The innocent students believe that formation of Telangana is the end of their struggle.//

Yes, it ends the current struggle, there are many struggles after this. We are prepared for that, one struggle at a time.

    continued below.....

  51. //With reduced strength in parliament representation and limited resources the people of Telangana need more motivation and sharper thought process.//

//what you'll really do when Telangana is formed. How would formation of Telangana usher in a golden era? Can you please explain? //

In separate state, no one will be here who try to steal our jobs/funds/water etc.. They will be restricted to the Andhra State borders.

//The Telangana is formed only when you have support of fellow Indians and not by taking the state to ransom.//

We believe we have enough support in India, that's the reason we keep asking to put the bill in parliament. If we do not have enough support then we loose, stop agitations and go home, live happly like before.

//Try to rationalize your approach and delve into the argument taking figures and indices and how will the quality of life not only in Telangana but in India as such will improve rather than comparing this with Freedom struggle//

So explain me, in our total Govt. jobs why Andhra enjoyes around 80% and Telangana limited to only 20%? So we started fixing our problems in drafted our plans in phases. Phase one is getting our state.

//Why should the goverment spend my taxes in creating new state capital(s) just to satisfy the emotional aspirations of a region?//

You have to loose as a panishment because you did broke the several agreements we had between us.

//it was led by Seemandhra leaders like P.Sundarayya .//

We are not denaying it, and we are thankful to it forevery, and same time the facts is Sundarayya is one among the many many others. I have posted a documentary video about 'fight against Nizam'. It clearly says there are few Andhraites involved in the struggle, but not like how you people claim that they lead the fight.

//If you want a new state buy peace with your neighbors first and with other compartiots.//

They started this, why they have to change on there stand after the Dec-9th statement? Is itn't called dual tongue, betrayal etc? If you have problems then why didn't you tell us long back?

//Come out with a blue print of why Telangana is necessary and how it would improve India in general.I//

First you come out of United Telugu etc. Telugu is not going to be died by dividing the state? Separate Telangana movement is going on for a long time (this current one is from past 10 years) you never cared to listen us or you never asked any questions, why now? First tell us why you are opposed to the division? What problems do you have with this step? Can you convinence you MPs to start implementing GO610 within a week? GO is passed means, it is legit, there is no need of re-thinking about it, all you have to do is force your MLA/MPs to support the implementation. As long as you can not do it, that means you are

But you need to correct yourself. I personally know Shaik Ahmed Ali. He is a born Hyderabadi and not from north India, as someone here commented. Further, some even referred him as supporter of MIM. He was the only reporter who had the courage to expose MIM when he was with Times of India. He also exposed the Pakistan's ISI network in Hyderabad leading to several arrest and after recent blasts he also busted their funding network.

I also read his latest blog. He never wrote a single word against Telangana, but boldly criticised the politicians who are trying to exploit the innocent students.
Should we glamorise suicides by students or should we stop them from ending their lives? If self immolation is right, then why no politician or a JAC member tried to immolate self.
I want separate Telangana, but not at the cost of lives of my Telangana brothers.

students are the ultimate losers.Students lost an academic year and can never gain back what they lost.

In a democratic country, nothing will happen by violence and the gentleman here,Mr Sujai is asking people to go for TET offensive, again Mr sujai, you want your job and everything where as innocent students should get enraged and throw stones on public property and get arrested.Which part of telangana culture is this???Which part of telangana culture lets students to burn themselves??

My only contention is that states are formed with a rationale.States were never formed out of people's opinion or popular appeal.People belong to state but state does not belong to the people.

Every inch of telangana belongs to all people in the country.Every person in the country own telangana. So telangana people asking for a seperate state should put forward a rationale, like language, administrative purposes etc.

cultural differences exist in every inch of India so no state was formed on culture basis alone.

If we keep on giving states since people wanted a state,it means that every district and every village can be declared a state.

People here are talking about cultural invasion, autrocities etc,Where were you all this time??how did KCR's son even earn a degree in guntur if they showed discrimination on him.

If upper caste people like reddy and kammas are oppressing you, then where are your caste people??why did you not form an association like MRPS????

I know that even MRPS leader krishna manda is for telangana but he is the inspiration for arogya sri.

Guys enuf is enuf.Giving away a state based on emotions and irrational reasons will disintegrate India. Then there is no point in crying after we are invaded by the chinese.Already chinese officials made a comment that "INDIA NEEDS TO BE DIVIDED INTO A LOT OF STATES,THEN ON ONE STROKE INDIA WILL CRUMBLE INTO PIECES."

Finally what do anyone want??peace and harmony,Which cannot be achieved through agitations.Problems can be solved by putting facts, truths and dismissing lies and let the country people know about telangana.

Sri krishna committee will do the same.So until then, there is no reason for getting rude to each other and your fellow citizens.Maintain peace and brotherhood and let evenrything known to the committee.

Sujai didn't make a critical analysis of the "person" Shaik Ahmed Ali.

He made a critical analysis of ONE ARTICLE written by Shaik Ahmed Ali and tried to show how it is far from the reality on the ground.

I am a Hyderabadi... and infact, my forefathers (from the past 10+ and may be forever) generations belong to Hyderabad. I have heard the stories of Nizam's rule in Hyderabad, Razakars movement in Telangana, of forced merger with Andhras in 1956, of the popular public opinion against merger into AP state, of the bloody 1969 agitation (where the Congress politicians used both their hired goondas and police on multiple occasions to beat up the students and employees agitating).. as well as the 1972 agitation.

In my father's words... NEVER IN THE PAST DID SO MANY PEOPLE TAKE TO STREETS WITH ONE GOAL IN MIND. NEVER in the past 50 yrs. There is an overwhelming support for the cause of Telangana, so much that no one is waiting for a 'LEADER'S CALL'. People are the leaders.

It raises eyebrows and gives a sick feeling in the stomach when one reads the articles like the one written by Shaik Ahmed Ali. It is far from the ground reality.

We understand his concern that "the death must be investigated". We do not oppose it.

But... we disagree with his rants before such an investigation or its results are published.

A Doctor may have been successful in other operations. That doesn't mean his diagnosis will beat the actual test-results.

We do not oppose a Scientific and legal inquiry into Yadaiah's death.

But... categorizing a people's movement as a "brain washing" by "politicians/vested interests" is unfair.

There is a HUGE difference beween "popular demand" and "pockets of converts".

No one can fool All the people of Telangana all the time. The truth on what people of this region really want is already out there. When responsible journalists cater to biased counter-views and make statements implying circumstances far from thruth, it gets irritating and annoying.

I tried to write to Mr. Ali, but my comments are filtered in his moderation.

FYI.... during independence of india, the rich zamindars or the princes of princely states didn't lay their lives for freedom from the British. It was comman man, the peasants, the workers and the poor.

Formation of states is not "a threat to national security".

Formation of states is to protect the "federal structure" where administration caters to people of the state.

Asking for a State is not "asking for a country".

Asking for freedom from "plutocracy" is not "maoism".

When a leader who can win the hearts of all Telanganites evolves, we will back him. But... till such a leader emerges from the masses... we take it forward on our shoulders, one step a time.

What is your dis-taste to people's movements with no leaders?

Finally what do anyone want??peace and harmony,Which cannot be achieved through agitations.Problems can be solved by putting facts, truths and dismissing lies and let the country people know about telangana.

Sri krishna committee will do the same.So until then, there is no reason for getting rude to each other and your fellow citizens.Maintain peace and brotherhood and let evenrything known to the committee.

You talk like an urban callous neighbour who HATES it when neighbors kid is crying for milk.

    We want PEACE.
    We want HARMONY.

    We desperately NEED JUSTICE.

We need our voices to be heard.

Our public representatives are not doing enough to voice our opinions... and hence we took it on ourselves to let the world know PEACEFULLY.

Remember? We didn't use, propose or suggest any violence.

We did and are still trying to educate the rest of the country on our sad state in AP and our aspirations.

Thanks for your rants... my fingers hurt replying to you, but my blood still boils at the "accusation filled indecent tone" of your comment.

Grow up, get well soon and learn to respect others freedoms and right to justice.

Telangana people are not born into riches, they dont have limit-less resources to keep wasting time on agitations as you put it. They are doing it out of disappointment and disenchantment with the plutocratic govt. of AP.

  67. bore well irrigation is the main problem/culprit when it comes to Telangana irrigation.

these are not at all subsidized by the government and hence the high cost of farming in Telangana.

A female professor from kakatiya university has come up with some analysis and figures about this bore well irrigation and becos of the salinity how the lands are fast loosing their fertility and farmers are bearing the high cost and drilling deeper bores and Telangana is fast loosing the ground water.

so when the official figures say Telangana farmers are also producing paddy , its true, but at what RELATIVE COST w.r.t to free canal water irrigation in Andhra ?

I hope srikrishna committee doest just look at the raw data but also analyze and see the big picture.

thats the reason all our telangana professors who have dedicated their lifes in studying the regional disparity are at the core of telangana movement.

Undavallis and JP's in their numerous TV experiences tell there is data to prove that there is no regional disparity but just raw data doest tell the COMPLETE story.

Data can be manipulated and made up to support ones argument but the reality might be completely different. There are no facts only interpretations.

Every Andhra politician or administrators(JP and their ilk) says Irrigation in telangana is costly and not economical. They would argue that its cheaper to come up with the irrigation projects in Andhra than Telangana .

I strongly object to that . No matter what, even after 20 years of reform , we are still agrigarion economy and majority of rural India STILL depends on agriculture.

I would say all these JP’s and Unvallis should put the same argument to a rural farmer in Deep telangana. Iam sure he would answer in the best possible way .

Again it comes back to same argument and central theme , coming from ANDHRA region they don’t see it as a priority and economic sense to improve irrigation in Telangana .

That’s the reason we WANT telangana and we want to have our own priorities and vision.

How much further insensitive can you get to alternative viewpoints? You cannot digest the fact that some people might differ from you. It is the responsibility of media to convey different perspectives, some of which you might like and some you don't. It is the responsibility of media to look at angles of maoists, dishonest leaders who are manipulating the minds of youngsters etc. If everyone reports the same views and analysis as you do, there is no reason for existence of media. They can just report the contents of your blog as world news.

You have every reason to criticize any lies but you cannot stop him from exercizing his right to report his analysis. And, what is your obsession with comparing ur movement with Indian independence? People like you are responsible for political culture where politicians think inciting you is good enough for their success in polls by raking up emotional issues. Stop carrying the 1953-baggage. Irrigation in Telangana is "made to look expensive" because the State govt. wants to "avoid" its responsibility towards its people.

In modern world, there are "DAMS"... ever heard of them? Telangana was irrigated through canals pre-1956... those canals are barren now, thanks to the neglect of state govt.

You work for JP? No wonder! Birds of same feather flock together.

  94. Guys,I am again telling that this kind of terrible infighting will lead to nothing.

Agree to the fact that telangana cause has no rationale.People here are asking me about how AP was formed??Well there was a rationale in the formation of AP.Potti sri ramulu fought for a land for telugu speaking people and the rationale behind his agitation was
    "LANGUAGE".
Some people argue that there are many hindi speaking states then why should we have only one telugu speaking state. My answer is
STATES LIKE UP,MP AND ETC WERE CREATED BASED ON ADMINISTRATIVE PURPOSES AND NOTHING ELSE.

NOW,PLEASE TELL ME,DID YOU SEE ANY STATE THAT WAS NOT DIVIDED ON LANGUAGE OR ADMIN PURPOSES????

Telanagana strictly falls under the category that gorkhaland or south tamilnadu,or dargeeling or koorg falls.

Further by giving away smaller states, the central government has to give thousands of crores to each new state and the burden falls on each Indian.

This equation is not feasible because India cannot payout lakhs of crores for newer states as it is a financial doom for the country.

Why cannot you think like Indians before thinking like people belonging to a small region.

As I said every Indian has stakes in telangana and few people cannot come and say it belongs to them.States are just for convenience and promotion of local culture and I dont see that there is any negligence for one section or the other.

If only telangana was neglected then how come we are all even able to get our degrees and come here and post on the internet.

And again,if telangana people think that they can get a state by inciting kids into suicides and making meaningless claims then my only suggestion is,try to do the same thing in USA or UK.Try to burn up buses and try to destroy public and private properties in foreign countries and you will understand that you will never again be able to use the internet in your life.

ANDHRA MEANS TELUGU AND NOT A REGION,READ THE HISTORY.AND ANY ONE WHO WANTS TO SAY THAT AP WAS FORMED BASED ON AGITATIONS AND VIOLENCE,UNDERSTAND THAT POTTI SRI RAMULU WAS A STRICT DISCIPLINARIAN,HE HAD NO FAMILY AND A PREACHER OF NON VIOLENCE.HIS AIM WAS NOT TO FORCE THE GOVERNMENT TO GIVE AWAY AP BUT TO MAKE THEM THINK ABOUT THE IMPORTANCE OF A TELUGU STATE.

TELUGU PEOPLE NEEDED A TELUGU STATE BECAUSE THEY COULD NOT LEARN KANNADA,TAMIL AND TELUGU AT A TIME AND FURTHER TELUGU SPEAKING PEOPLE WILL BE EXTINCT UNDER MADRAS PROVINCE RULE.

Did your ancestors know even to write or read in telugu?

IF PEOPLE HERE WANT TO KEEP ON ARGUING AND AGITATING ,COMPARING VISHALANDHRA MOVEMENT TO THE TELANGANA VIOLENCE,PROBABLY EVEN SRI KRISHNA WONT BE ABLE TO CONVINCE YOU.

    Nayeem,

you are hinting at a crime we never committed.

We in Telangana are not anti-national. We are as much citizens of India as you are.

On similar lines, we have equal rights to:

    JUSTICE, social, economic and political;
    LIBERTY of thought, expression, belief, faith and worship;
    EQUALITY of status and of opportunity;
and to promote among them all
    FRATERNITY assuring the dignity of the individual and the unity and integrity of the Nation;

Have some patience to LEARN a few things before you make serious allegations.

Asking for a "State" is not anti-national.

Smaller states are good for administration.

There has been consistent "region-based-discrimination" on Telangana and its people. What you are seeing today is a cultural renaissance from the region against suppression.

No one in Telangana is asking for "Extra funds".

They are asking for a "de-merger" and re-creation of their pre-1956 state, carving out Telangana.

Having 2 telugu speaking states is not wrong.

Do you see Telanganas and Andhras fighting each other on streets? The day that happens, come back and say the things you are saying. Till then, go back to classes and learn some lessons on social justice, people's movements and discrimination.

U guys were unfairly asking him to resign at every opportunity and not having ba**s to touch MIM MLAs or implement bandh in old city. Why? If he visits OU, u guys wud attack him and no one wud like to get involved in such volatile atmosphere.

U want to discuss solutions? Loksatta has several reasons and proofs to show that decentralization and local governance is solution, not replacing YSR with KCR or X with the same political system. Creating 3 new states is huge cost to exchequer and not solution to the problems.

  99. @ nayeem,

Here is a small lesson in history for you:

Myth about Potti Sriramulu and Present-day Andhra Pradesh: Potti Sriramulu struggled for the separation of Telugu-speaking areas from Madras Presi dency to form an Andhra state. More spe cifically, he fasted in 1952 for a separate Andhra state with Madras as its capital. This proposal of T Prakasam was rejected outright by C Rajagopalachari, the then chief minister of Madras Presidency. While the proposal for linguistic states was accepted by the Calcutta Congress Committee in 1934, the proposal for the formation of a linguistic state of Telugus was approved by the Madras assembly in 1937. It was only after the death of Potti Sriramulu that the movement for a sepa rate Andhra intensified. Andhra state was formed in 1953 with Kurnool as its capital and T Prakasam as its chief minister.

The Hyderabad State was merged with the Indian govt. in Sep 1948. The first elections held in the Hyderabad state were in 1952 when Burugula rama krishna rao was the first elected chief minister of Hyderabad State.

In 1956, the telugu speaking districts were merged with the Andhra state against the wish of Telangana people. The Hyderabad State was broken into three pieces.

Not everyone acts in a constricted box like the current Roshaiah administration.

PVN has initiated the economic reforms, the fruits of which, you and I living in Hyderabad are enjoying today.

PVN didn't act like a CM of AP or CM of Telangana when he was in the prestigious office of PM during his tenure.

State governments had the responsibility of making sure that Telangana gets its due share.

In Telangana's case, it is not just mis-allocation and mis-appropriation of funds... but loot and plunder of its natural resources, its cities and a cultural attack on its people.

These are strong reasons for a DE-MERGER from the Andhra State.

The formation of states is not an extra burden on the ex-chequer.

We are not asking for sky and everything under it. We are asking for a de-merger. De-merger is not a re-creation of a new state.

How are you so sure that creation of Telangana will not solve its problems?

How are you so sure that we will elect the idiot KCR to replace YSR?

You ow us answers for your prejudices (strongly drilled into you by JP... may I call you brain-washed too... like you blame us to be brain-washed by idiot-KCR?)

We don't consider LokSatta or JP representing us.

JP represents one constituency in Hyderabad. JP doesn't represent Telangana. JP doesn't represent Andhra Pradesh.

I personally care less if JP doesn't resign. nor do the Telangana people.

JP is a weird breed of politicians who sounds romantic to some semi-literate people. But, JP has no voice among the masses.

He could have had some REAL support from the Telangana people... IF... IF HE EVER CARED TO VISIT OU CAMPUS AND TALK TO OU STUDENTS... IF HE EVER CARED TO UNDERSTAND THEIR PAIN... IF HE EVER CARED TO REPRESENT THEM ... IF HE EVER CARED TO VOICE THEIR OPINIONS.

Telangana Districts on the whole are certainly ahead of those in KA/MH.

Sri Krishna Committee should and will bring these facts on to the table. That will not only show how far/backward Telangana districts in Andhra Pradesh and can feel some sympathy for their old brethren disparaged in other regions.

Irrespective of T, Govts at State and Center should concentrate on decentralization of powers. It will bring accountability and effectiveness in the short possible regions.

The Ministry of Panchayati Raj has recently set up the National Advisory-cum- Review Committee on Backward Regions Grant Fund (BRGF). The National Institute of Rural Development (NIRD), Hyderabad is the Secretariat for the Committee. We would like the feedback of members of the Decentralization Community on issues referred to in the terms of reference of the committee.
BRGF is designed to redress regional imbalances in development. The Fund provides financial resources to the States for supplementing and converging existing developmental inflows into 250 identified districts, so as to:
    (a) Bridge critical gaps in local infrastructure and other development requirements that are not being adequately met the existing inflows;
    (b) Strengthen, to this end the Panchayati Raj and Municipality level governance through appropriate capacity building, to facilitate participatory planning, decision making, implementation and monitoring, reflect felt local needs;.
    (c) Provide professional support' to local bodies for planning, implementation and monitoring their plans; and
    (d) Improve the performance and delivery of critical functions assigned to Panchayats, and counter the possible efficiency and equity losses on account of inadequate local capacities.

  151. Looks like Supreme court is also being pulled in Telangana issue.

" The Supreme Court may end up laying down norms for creating new states or dividing existing ones.

An anti-Telangana group has filed a petition saying the Centre cannot form new states arbitrarily and has requested the court to set guidelines for the exercise of such powers under Articles 3 and 4 of the Constitution.

The court will take up the petition after two weeks, alongside another plea that has been filed against the proposed creation of Telangana. Any decision will have an impact on demands for new states across the country, lawyers said. At least 10 such demands, including one for Gorkhaland, are pending before the home ministry.

The petition pointed out that re-organisation of states in the past, whether in 1956, 1960 or 1966, had some rational basis, whether linguistic or administrative. It pointed out that the state reorganisation committee had in 1956 explained why Telangana was included in Andhra.

The petition said the Constitution had special provisions to deal with pockets of underdevelopment — one of the reasons for such demands — without creating new states.

“Unfortunately, due to the weakening of the political structure caused partly on account of fractured mandates, governments are seen to act under populous (popular) pressure.”

Even the terms of reference of the Srikrishna Commission on Telanagna demand do not specify a concrete basis on which it should take a decision. "

By saying that I don’t mean we should actually remove Gandhi from the picture. It doesn’t mean that I am opposing Gandhi. It doesn’t mean I support violent movements. It means that the non-violent movement can be credited to Gandhi so much that without him it would have been violent.

The one respected muslim journalist that dares to question the motives of Telangana leadership gets lambasted with humiliating phrases like "take your head out of ass"

  160. PLANNING COMMISSION - GOVERNMENT OF INIDA, REPORT ON ANDHRA PRADESH

In recent years the plan allocations to the priority sectors such as agriculture, irrigation have been declining from plan to plan. Irrigation sector was neglected during 8th and 9th plan periods. Earlier, governments have made adequate allocations for irrigational projects like Nagarjuna Sagar, Srisailam, 420 TMCs (390 TMCs) Pochampad (90 TMCs) (SRSP) major irrigation projects. These allocations have created assured irrigational facilities to Coastal Andhra leaving Rayalaseema and Telangana regions. This also caused in regional imbalances in the state.

The increase of electricity charges and gradual withdrawal of subsidies to agricultural sector also increased cost of cultivation unremunerative cultivation. This has led to unrest among the farmers resulting suicide deaths especially in Telangana region.

The suicide deaths of handloom weavers have become a common feature in Telangana region.

Literacy rate is relatively high in Coastal Andhra followed by Rayalaseema and Telangana.

More than 75 percent of canal irrigation in the state is available to Coastal Andhra followed by 17 percent in Telangana 7.5 percent in Rayalaseema. Agricultural development in Telangana and Rayalaseema was neglected. As a result borewell and dugwell irrigation increased significantly. As a result, there was depletion of water table in Telangana and Rayalaseema regions.

The state is experiencing deceleration of growth rate of agricultural sector and decline of employment in rural areas resulting in exodus of masses to urban areas, particularly from backward districts like Mahabubnagar, Medak, Nalgonda, Warangal, Ananthapur, Chittoor and Vizianagaram. Institutional finance to the agricultural sector has declined and the role of money lenders private finances is still dominant particularly in Telangana and Rayalaseema regions.

labour households in Telangana and Rayalaseema get very less non-farm employment compared to Coastal Andhra. It is because of backward agriculture and recurring drought conditions.

The whole situation, we can say that during the last five decades, Telangana and Rayalaseema regions were neglected on irrigation front as a result, agricultural development suffered while Coastal districts have been reaping the benefits of canal irrigation.

There was state assurance of minimum support price for paddy. This has mostly benefited the big farmers from Coastal Andhra.

Drought prone districts like Mahabubnagar in Telangana, Ananthapur district in Rayalaseema and Vizianagaram district in Coastal Andhra still remain far behind the developed districts in respect of income, employment and living conditions.

  161. Hi Sujai,
Thank you so much for writing this rebuttal on the stupid-ass Ali. You have given voice to so many things that many including me felt while reading his inane assinine idiotic foolish garbage of an article. Kudos to your patience as well, with the endless supply of stupid people posing as intellectuals/experts, especially on something they don't have the slightest clue about. I can respect someone who is against Telangana and come up with some smart reasons, but idiots like these are just a drag on everyone's time. Really, I dread to think of IBN's future if this is what they have got for journalists.

For god's sake common now !!!! Why do you comfort yourself to the extent that you make yourself look like a fool ?

Telangana was a separate state in the name of Hyderabad state from 1948 to 1956 with additional areas that are now part of Maharashtra, Tamilnadu and Karnataka.

U seem to lack history knowledge among the long list of things that u already dont know to even consider having a decent discussion.

  164. hey Sujai
You've deleted my post as you could not answer my provoking questions.Telangana is not a trademark of few people. Please do your homework and appreciate how hard our ancestors have fought to give Hyderabad the status it has right now.REad about Narayana Rao Pawar,Swami Ramananda Thirtha,Shoibullah Khan,Pt Narendra ,Dasarathi and scores of others who sacrificed livelihood and live for Hyderabad Integration. Those where the times when there were atrocities against women, home burnings, forcible conversions and tyranny. The people who fought Nizam are not just Telanganites, but Andhras,Kannadigas,Marathas,North Indians,Communists and even liberal Muslims. Therefore Telangana is not property of few insecure folks.
Now the new crop of intellectuals who feel that this Telangana movement is akin to freedom struggle should realize how hard those times were and really what freedom is.Are you deprived of education when you want to study? If you say Telangana is underdeveloped compare it with those Nizam times when people were made illiterate on purpose and if there was any education it was in Urdu medium which was of no use outside of the state. When Hyderabad was burning Nizam with his 16 wifes gave a grand party of Roosevelt in Delhi. Can you even compare those days with the present. How can you say the lives of the people are the same? There are opportunities that are not being utilized. One of the reasons being the presence of omnipotent 'doras' who wantonly grabbed the properties from the rural folks and collected their precious lives as collateral.
Telangana has nurtured many bright intellectuals who strove from nowhere.Burra Venkatesam one of the brightest IAS officers we have now is one of them.He studied in Ambedkar college, considered one of the 'flirtiest' and debauched colleges in Hyderabad and secured top All-India rank,he is from Nalgonda.Would he have been an IAS is there were no opportunities in Telangana ? Opportunities exist only for those who grab them, they just doesn't shine on you because you are from Andhra.I was educated in Osmania University, leave me from the picture considering I hail from
Hyderabad/RR district.I'm proud to say I've seen so many Civil servants Central and state services who hail from interior Telangana districts not having been to Hyderabad in their undergraduate life.Would it have been without opportunities that were presented in Andhra Pradesh?
Telangana is underdeveloped, fine but so are Hyderabad-Karnataka and Manmad/Aurangabad regions.Let them fight for integration with Telangana. If Telangana were to be a separate state then Gulbarga/Bidar should be separate and Aurangabad should be separate. Please focus on ways to alleviate Telangana people instead of finding new ways of insane and devious protests like carving on stone and human chains wasting everybody's time and energy. Our ancestors have done enough to liberate Hyderabad from Nizam let's enjoy that instead of inducing insularity in the minds of youth and students and launching them into unsheltered violence. For well educated people like you,Telangana rightnow is a puerile thrill that quenches your vicarious adventurism that takes pride in changing the name of Andhra Bank to Telangana Bank and asking people to boycott Andhra goods and services, our young friends and students are mislead, they feel that Telangana state formation would open-up endless cache of treasure that's begging to come to limelight. And that my friends is a senseless dream that is sold to millions of folks,of course at a premium , senseless violence and pointless hatred. There is no panacea for anything .Let's identify issues besetting the region and come up with a solutions and if the only remedy is statehood, let's present it and then ask people and rulers. But before that people no hatred or ill-feelings.

I am not sure what you are trying to say, but first answer me one question.

Have you read about Andhra, Hyderabad State merger, agreements, 1969 and 1972 agitation, GO610, Girglaini commission report. Have you read 'Case for Telangana' in this blog?

First read our case and question us if you have any questions. We explained this to many and many new readers here like you, and now I do not have energy to explain you again.

I've read everything and understand.I told you all umpteen number of times that I'm a Hyderabadi and a Telanganite.I know enough to ask people to remain calm and not to get carried by passions and let democratic process take its course.I know enough about how we have lost precious lives of Dastagiris,Chandraihs, tens of 12-13 year olds in Umdanagar Railway station,Venugopals and Yadagiris. That is enough...Let the youth enjoy life. You should have understood by now what I'm trying to say.We have fought enough to earn the liberation of Hyderabad state.Let's be thankful,Hyderabad didn't go to Pakistan.Regarding backwardness and underdevelopment, the whole of erstwhile Hyderabad state is the same.If backwardness was a parameter lets integrate whole of Hyderabad state again .Let us get innovate to devise ways in which Telangana could be developed.Even if expend 1/4 of energy we are putting into this agitation we can secure a bright future.Stop this railing and grudge against people from other regions. As a Hyderabadi I learnt how to live as a cosmopolitian Indian and be friendly with 'settlers'.I'm proud of how people all over the world appreciate the city.If you think this amazing fabric woven by millions of people called Hyderabad can be tarnished by a few selfish politicians I know how to raise my voice.........Hey how knows I might be the first Telanganite to resist the attempts to disturb my city.Hey every great movement has a beginning..

    POK,
do you see that 9/10 telangana districts are identified as backward regions?

My friend, the three parameters are not enough to define backwardness. This scheme is only for certain parametsr and all 3 parameters with equal weight.

So for e.g., if any district has very few SCs but is backward otherwise, it will not figure in the list.

Srikakulam is the most backward district in AP by any count. I have not come across a single citizen who does not agree with this. Yet it does not fiure in the list.

I dont see any laughable comments from JP.

    The question was:

pavva:Is it true that really telangana region losing their funds and water?

The question is not about developing good resources of water, the question is about Is telangana region losing water as it is part of AP?

We all know that Irrigation was completely neglected from decades.
There are numerous projects in Coastal andhra, rayalaseema and Telangana that were neglected.

Please dont just oppose the views just for opposing sake

Dont prejudge people as you are already doing in the case of Telangana. I studied in a govt school from 1-10 and then studied in private schools as they were very few govt institutions.

I would encourage you or sujai to write a blog on two things:

What were those resources/funds that were hijacked from Telangana to rest of AP. What are the developments that took place in rest of AP because of these resources?

    ReplyDelete
  171. What were those resources/funds that were hijacked from Telangana to rest of AP. What are the developments that took place in rest of AP because of these resources?

I think you should go back and see the more than 40 odd posts written by Sujai in this blog.
    And about funds ,
Bhargava committee has calculated that about 100 crores from the telangana surplus had been utilized out side the region by 1969.
Do you know what was the initial cost of SRSP in 1963? Just 40 crores.
You don't need to be an economist to judge where those funds were spent. And 100 crores in 1950's and 60's is a very huge amount.
Due to meager funds provided annually SRSP is still incomplete and the costs increased to astronomical levels due to inflation.
This is just one of the cases.
And the Girglani commission reports that more than 1 lakh jobs were alloted to andhra against the rules from 1975- 1989.
So you can imagine the actual job losses to telangana. More, all these illegal job holders got legalized due to their extended presence in telangana. Their children are now locals.
I don't think you would not be able to imagine the actual job losses telangana people and their families had suffered.

    And regarding development in Andhra,
all the new Power production units after 1970's that are based on coal(from telangana) were set up in Andhra. And telangana continues to supply them with coal on subsidized rates.
Most andhra people say that the delta projects that cater andhra irrigation were completed before 1950.
They ignore the fact that all thes projects were reconstructed after merger as the earlier projects were expiring.
Recently 9000 crores were alloted to Krishna delta project for modernization.
But as ususual SRSP gets the same few 100 crores for maintainence.
Andhra gets 4000 crores for Polavaram, but govt. does not provide few hundred crores for completion of RJS, Devadula projects.
Don't you see any marginalization here????

We are not haters of any other regions. May be you are pointing the TRS, we are no associates or followers of TRS.

//As a Hyderabadi I learnt how to live as a cosmopolitian Indian and be friendly with 'settlers'.//

    Did they learned that?

//Hyderabad can be tarnished by a few selfish politicians I know how to raise my voice//

Its a free country. You have every right to do such.

//Let us get innovate to devise ways in which Telangana could be developed.//

We started it long back, our first phase is to separate the Telangana state.

If you still want to discuss, you can move to recent post, I am not following the old posts comments.

  173. @sravan

    Thanks for the reply.
It would be easy for me if you can point to a certain post in this blog on this subject.

So I can see two points from your post. One is Bhargava committe about 100 crore funds and Girglani commission abt 1 lakh jobs. I wont deny anything here. But it would be good if you can share source of this info.

Note that we were not talking about the inability to do some things. We were talking about only the diversion of resources. There were lot of projects ignored by govt of AP in all parts of AP.

So the better measure would me the money spent on the irrigation in rest of AP and telangana. We dont have clear info on this.

So there are three parameters here:

    (1) Irrigation
    (2) Jobs
    (3) Funds diverted.

If you have some specific info on these diversions, Please write with source of info.

Are these only parameters or Do you have anything to include on the parameters list to prove discrimination of Telangana region in Andhra Pradesh

  176. Chandu, that is a clever tactic.
Delaying the SRSP by annually providing money for only maintainance and salaries the costs has swelled. Initially planned at 40 crores now it has gone up to 1900 crores. But still it is in phase I.
Not only quantity but quality is important.
Until the andhra majority and bureaucracy dominates in the state, nothing good can happen to telangana

  178. 2 Days ago, I've tuned Aaj Tak Hindi News Channel. They were airing a program on the Pune Bomb blast conspiracy. In that they've shown some visuals of the CCTV cameras installed outside of the "O Hotel" and "Osho Asram" and the presenter was saying that these videos can be of a great use in investigating the case.

Is Aaj Tak linked allied with the terrorist groups? Or is it that the Indian cops are too lazy to grab those videos of the CCTV cameras before a private News channel like Aaj Tak airs them on TV with 'Aaj Tak Exclusive' water mark?

Should we blame the media for their over excitement or the inactivity of the Indian bureaucrats. Hope Mr Ali had an answer!
